Of late there has been a plethora of news flashes about vaginal cosmetic surgery. The techniques being referred to are labiaplasty, vaginoplasty, hoodectomy and a few more. One of the strongest statements came from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). For your protection and education, I have created a link to the ACOG’s warning.

Some of this surgery claims to improve sexual sensation, yet there have been no definitive studies published in peer reviewed journals. In other words, there is no scientific evidence that vaginal tightening, hoodectomy, G-spot enhancement do indeed improve sensation. It is critical to understand that none of these procedures will result in orgasms for non?orgasmic women. Dr. Cheryl Iglesia published an editorial in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology and stated, “None of these procedures have proven effectiveness . . . and there is potential for harm. Women are being misled or are confused about what is normal.”

The history of what is considered beautiful in a woman’s body has revealed the ignorance of women’s genital diversity and created mystery around what women’s genitals  look like. In our culture female genitalia are construed as far more limited than their physiological reality. The discrepancy, between the reality and the imaginary perfection, in female genitalia can produce considerable psychological distress for some women. If you truly want to understand the huge diversity of women’s vulvas, check out this artist’s Great Wall Of Vagina. This art installation was created to express the beauty and diversity of women.

One of the problems is that there is a lack of research that has been done regarding female genitalia. For instance, it was only very recently that the clitoris has been discovered to be a much larger organ than what is visible, the glans. And certainly many woman have no access to comparing except perhaps with pornography. Judging the aesthetic beauty of women’s genitals based on pornography is problematic because not only are the standards unrealistic, but they are influenced and constructed by the sex industry. For instance, one reason women are seeking cosmetic surgery is to reduce or make the external labia symmetrical. There is a reason the labia is not symmetrical. This is to protect the vagina and inner labia. One side is intended to fold over
the other.I do not perform these procedures at Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center here in Arkansas. If

you do want one of them, you should educate yourself thoroughly. Here are some resources. Note that Dr. Matlock states that vaginal rejuvenation is not intended to help non-orgasmic women. These procedures should require very specific training in gynecology as well as cosmetic surgery. So do very careful research ladies.

Feel free to contact me for a consultation about the procedures I do perform. Call 501-277-0707.
