Facebook Facelifts?
January 6, 2016 - Rhys Branman, MDSuddenly chin implants have become one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries. Why is this? Some people are pointing to social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Skype and other social media as the causative culprits. With our faces plastered all over the Internet these days, lots of people just want to put their best look forward, and a chiseled chin seems to be most impressive. Chin augmentation is the fastest growing trend for both men and women. In fact, in 2011, chin implants were up over 70%.
Other parts of the face getting a lot of attention are the lips and the cheeks. Cheek implants were up a full 47%, while lip augmentation was up 49% in the past year. Of course face lifts have been as popular as ever, even more so with a 5% increase last year. Following those procedures Laser Skin Resurfacing was up by 9% and injectable fillers saw an increase of 7%. Notice these procedures are all on the face. It seems that social media is changing the way we see ourselves. The patient demographic seems to be woman between age 20 and 35. However, men too are seeking Facebook Facelifts, as they are being called.
There are even books being published on how to brand yourself, such as Erik Decker’s “Branding Yourself: How to Use Social Media to Invent or Reinvent Yourself.” It’s true that looking your best helps in the workplace and social scenes. The statistics of success and attractiveness are as follows: There is a 10% higher chance that an attractive person will get a call back after an interview than an unattractive person. Attractive workers on the average earn 10% more too, in fact over a life time, attractive workers will earn $230,000 more. With each standard deviation increase in facial, symmetry a person happens to earn 8% more! Don’t forget that facial symmetry one of the most important factors in attractiveness.
These success statistics were verified by the American Psychological Association, and Princeton University using a psychological test with a 7 point scale and reported by Statistic Brain, an online statics project. So is it any wonder that more people are flocking to cosmetic surgeons’ offices? Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center offers Arkansas patients all of the above cosmetic procedures.
