How Long Does a Facelift Last?

That question is asked by almost every one of my patients who come to me for face lift surgery at Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center. The honest answer used to be: it varies. Not anymore though. Now cosmetic surgeons can help patients have even more realistic and accurate expectations. Recently a study reported that 50 photographs of face lift patients were scrutinized by researchers in order to analyze just that, how long a face lift lasts. The face lift patients whose photos were examined had face lift surgery 5 and 1/2 years before.

The researchers looked at three specific sets of criteria: the general aesthetic look of the face was scored, as were objective measurements  of specifics such as the height of the jowl where the chin angles into the neck. Finally, key areas were rated for lines such as nasal labial lines and marionette lines to see just how well the work held up. It turns out all three criteria held up after 5 years. The most they could see was very slight decline in the area of the neck. The corrections held up everywhere else and 76% of the patients continued to look younger when the more subjective analysis was calculated into the overall appearance of age.

This is actually the first study to be conducted providing evidence of a cosmetic procedure’s longevity. I usually say that a face lift will make you look about 7-10 years younger and now I can state with confidence, that it will last at the very least more than 5 years, with only slight “fall” around the neck area for most patients.
