I Love Sculptra
May 5, 2022 - Rhys Branman, MDThe active ingredient in Sculptra, although relatively new on the cosmetic scene, has quite a recent medical history. Poly-L-lactic acid was used in sutures for many years. It was discovered that this ingredient causes the body to stimulate its own collagen growth. The FDA then approved Sculptra for facial wasting in people with HIV. The injections have been in use in Europe since 1999. Slowly, over time, the body reacts to this substance, PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid). This creates volume where fat and collagen have been lost with age. Sculptra improves the appearance of the nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles, and hides fat loss in the cheeks. In fact, it works for fine lines and deep folds by filling out sunken, indented and hollow areas in the face. Other fillers are used for smaller areas, but Sculptra works on larger areas of the face. In this way Sculptra gives long lasting volume to the face resulting in a more youthful appearance. You can see a video simulation of how it works HERE at the Sculptra Aesthetic website.
So how long does this wonderful product last? Sculptra lasts for up to two years or more! That is longer than any other injectable filler. The procedure involves generally one to three office visits to receive the injections. And this can be maintained over a longer period of time with touch-ups a year or two later. The volumizing effect is a process. It is usually the loss of volume that makes a person look older, not merely wrinkles. When the Sculptra is injected, there is an immediate filling effect. However, this disappears in a day or two and then over the course of several months, as the body grows more collagen, the face fills out beautifully. This is a process of slow, subtle, natural enhancement that provides up to 80 percent improvement in the treated areas. I happen to really like the results from Sculptra. In combination with Ultherapy skin tightening treatment, Sculptra can be part of a non-surgical facial rejuvenation if you don’t need a face lift. I also mentioned how many of my patients who opt for this procedure are runners and other athletic people who tend to lose a lot of fat in their face. Sculptra nicely plumps up the cheeks, nasolabial area, and the temple area. Compared to other fillers the price is right too. Don’t forget you can come into the office at our Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center Open House on October 25th to learn about all the products I use! There will also be a raffle and you might win some products, including Sculptra.
