Men and Women Age Differently

March 8, 2018 - Rhys Branman, MD

Older Man And WomanMen and women age differently. This is important to be aware of as you age, because often couples think “what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander.” This is simply not true. Although in both sexes, the face is where evidence of aging defined by wrinkles is often most obvious. Men and women’s faces even wrinkle differently. But don’t be fooled! Both men and women are having cosmetic procedures these days, albeit often for different reasons. Let’s look at some of the differences and similarities in signs of aging in both genders.

On the one hand, men usually develop deeper wrinkles on their foreheads, whereas, women tend to first develop fine lines around the eyes and mouth. Most people are familiar with “crow’s feet” and “laugh lines.” All of these can be treated with BOTOX®, at Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center. Men typically do not want the arch of their brow raised, as this gives a person a more feminine look. They may choose to use BOTOX® on the more vertical glabellar lines between the eyes, rather than the horizontal furrows, or opt for a brow lift. Men also choose BOTOX® for those nasolabial folds more often. Also, a bit later on in life, both men and women can develop deeper nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Dermal fillers help both genders with these deep lines, but men have thicker skin so it is preferable to use a heavier dermal filler.

Women tend to develop sagging skin on the neck more frequently than men, but men may note that their chin appears to recede. Consequently, a neck lift may be a more desirable procedure for a woman, and a chin implant for a man.

One thing both men and women have in common as they age is weight gain, particularly around the middle, that “spare tire” or “muffin top” you may have heard extra tummy fat called! If you are in generally good shape, an in about 10 or 20 pounds of your idea weight, liposuction is the procedure both men and women want for this problem. Recently, more couples are electing to undergo cosmetic procedures together. Let Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center help you reach your goals.
