“Never Say Never”
January 16, 2020 - Rhys Branman, MDBack in 2008 Naomi Watts was quoted as saying ” God, no! People my age and younger are having so much work done, but my view is that it’s a terrible thing to mess with your face. As an actress, my job is to express myself. No, seriously, we’ve got to allow ourselves to age gracefully. And somebody’s got to play the old ladies.” Of course she was only 39 years old then. Now, at 44 years old, Ms. Watts is much more realistic. In fact, her comments are all over the Internet gossip columns.
Now Ms. Watts is saying, “Never say never – and I certainly don’t judge anyone who does it. But most of the characters I play are going through some kind of emotional turmoil, so my job requires me to have expression. If my face was frozen, what right do I have to play that part? All the women who haven’t done anything to their faces are still able to play great roles. And some of the ones who have done something have messed it up – they look freakish.” So this is an interesting comment. And it is a rather general analysis. What do actresses have to say about cosmetic surgery? I thought I would take a look!
George Clooney and Daniel Craig (of recent James Bond fame) both have had work done, and endorse cosmetic surgery. Clooney had blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). Craig had an injury while working and needed cosmetic surgery. They both give their surgeons credit for helping them maintain their looks and careers. Sally Fields long ago complained about the bags under her eyes and admitted being grateful for lower eyelid surgery. Of course there are many more, whom I have mentioned in a previous blog entry Celebrity Gossip. If you look at the list, you will see these surgeries were quite successful and did not limit the actor or actress’ ability to express emotion or evoke emotion in their audiences. Marilyn Monroe certainly was successful with cosmetic surgery, not to mention Jane Fonda. Notice, in the news stories, that it is the more famous dramatic actresses that specifically may reject BOTOX® while accepting other cosmetic procedures.
At Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center, BOTOX® is commonly prescribed along with many other procedures. Needless to say, tastefully and competently performed procedures do help you age gracefully without an “over done” look. Skill on the part of your cosmetic surgeon is the key!
