New Trend for Nipples?
August 26, 2019 - Rhys Branman, MDThere appears to be a new trend in cosmetic surgery. It’s called “Tittooing.” Again, in the United Kingdom, it has become a fad for darkening, or defining the nipples. Not only that, but sometimes the nipples are tattooed into shapes like stars! The procedure is about $1500.00 to $2,000.00 to top it all off. It is being called a nipple movement. Gail Proudman is a clinician in Liverpool who is doing this procedure for at least three women a week. For some reason, the tittoo only lasts for 12 to 18 months. Shockingly, the May issue of the British magazine Tatler, featured a 3 page article naming the “Best Societies Breasts.” This was not well received by the public, by the way. What’s up with England, I ask?
Meanwhile despite the new trend in England, a 2011 study surveying the breasts of 100 models concluded that the proportion of the size of the nipple to the rest of the breast was the most important aesthetic factor. The surgeon who did this “Analysis of an Ideal Breast,” Patrick Mallucci, considers himself an expert because he has revised so many poorly done breast augmentations.
Cleverly, one blogger suggested that “From Botticelli to John Updike, the rosebud nipple has long dominated Western art.” And if you look at classical art, you will see this is true. Take a look at the artist Titian’s Venus of Urbino. Now, those are small nipples.
The nipple tattooing trend was most likely inspired by the practice of tattooing nipples on breast cancer survivors who have had mastectomies. Medical experts warn that women who want to have this done should seek out a medical tattooist, not the tattoo joint on the corner. Beside avoiding dangerous infection, medical tattooists get to numb the area, an added perk.
This new trend for nipples is not offered at Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center. Breast augmentation and many other more traditional cosmetic procedures are however. We just wanted to inform and amuse a bit. Do you think “tittooing” will become popular in the United States, ladies?
