Self Injecting Botox Can Be Deadly
November 7, 2023 - Rhys Branman, MDHave you seen the ads below on the Internet? So have I. I see them every time I go online. I have two reasons for writing this post: I want people to be careful where they go for injections, and I want people to be sure to understand just how dangerous it is to inject yourself.

This is bad. Not just a little bad, but very, very bad, not to mention illegal. I see these ads all over the Internet every time I go online. Buying injectables and treating yourself is extremely dangerous. Not only is it dangerous to inject yourself without the proper training, but how do you know just what these products are? In 2011, Kerry Campbell injected her daughter with BOTOX®. This was a scandalous case that involved child abuse. However, many women continue to feel they can buy these drugs from the internet and inject themselves with BOTOX® or fillers, or have friends inject these drugs. You could paralyze half of your face or worse. Abscesses, infections, and even death have come from incorrectly injected drugs such as BOTOX® and dermal fillers. The kits sold often come from third world countries and are fake or tainted drugs. Please do not try to save money this way!
Last year, and now again this year, the Food and Drug Administration has sent out letters of warning. On May 10th of this year there was this letter of warning:
“Over the past two weeks, the FDA has issued a flurry of safety alerts to warn the public of problems with different drugs, including adverse events tied to the anti-seizure drug Potiga, fake BOTOX® and fleck-infused containers of injectable drugs produced by Hospira. Nearly two years after its approval, the agency warns that GlaxoSmithKline and Valeant’s Potiga (ezogabine) could literally turn patients blue or cause eye abnormalities.”
At Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center we use BOTOX® and other products bought directly from the original company that manufactured the drug. Allergan has the trademark on BOTOX®, and that is where Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center buys it. Be very wary about where you go for injections of BOTOX® or any dermal fillers. Please do your research on the surgeon and the facility. Ask where they buy their drugs, ask to see the package. Do not be afraid to keep yourself safe.
