Summer is Here
July 26, 2018 - Rhys Branman, MDSummer is the slow time at Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center. Many people prefer to enjoy the summer rather than having cosmetic procedures. And this makes sense. In fact, many of the face lifts and tummy tucks or Mommy Makeovers in December, or the breast augmentations in the early spring were timed precisely to slip into that bathing suit! You must be completely healed before you can leap into the lake, pool or participate in that scuba diving tour of Belize! One of the sure fire ways to get an infection that will interfere with proper healing is to submerge yourself in water too soon! So enjoy July and August! Unless you took that winter vacation to the Caribbean, you probably want to go out and play in the sun, with your sunscreen on, I hope!
However there are those who disdain the hot weather. Those who take ski trips to Colorado over the winter holiday season. Those who prefer the cool AC that is quite convenient in our overly warm and humid Arkansas. If you are one of these individuals, you may have scheduled your more major cosmetic surgeries for these months. If you did, do not plan on recuperating poolside, or under that backyard shade tree. The heat itself can create prolonged swelling in some cases. Your blood thins in the hot weather also, which means sometimes one might bleed more after surgery. The other problem is the radiation from the sun itself. Sun tends to redden scars and make them more obvious. So here are some tips if you want to schedule cosmetic surgery during the hot months of the year.
-
Stay inside in that AC! You scheduled surgery because you don’t like the heat anyway.
-
Face it, if you saved this summer vacation for surgery, you will have to avoid the sun.
-
Don’t forget liposuction requires wearing a compression garment. If you don’t stay inside this can be hot and uncomfortable.
-
Because it is unlikely you will stay sequestered in your home for the duration of your recovery, procedures like laser resurfacing are not recommended for this time of year. After laser resurfacing, you must keep your face out of the sun for 6 weeks! Save it for a time when there is less sunlight, winter or late fall, maybe very early spring.
So what can you have done if you feel the need for a little pick-me-up during the summer months? Minor and non invasive procedures are the way to go. Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery offers BOTOX® and dermal fillers, which require no down time and the results will not be affected by the heat or sunlight. Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center also offers Ultherapy and Thermage, which require no down time. These procedures tighten the skin and promote collagen growth giving you a non invasive facial rejuvenation. Come schedule some of these procedures during the summer months.
