The Cult of Youth
December 2, 2013 - Rhys Branman, MDThroughout history the pursuit of beauty and youth has inspired quests of exploration for fountains of youth or exotic herbs, to medical procedures and extreme fashion trends. From Cleopatra’s milk baths and cosmetic concoctions to the powdered faces and wigs of 18th century European courts, and the removal of ribs to create the wasp-waisted look that fit into Victorian corsets, beauty and youth have been sought by the rich and powerful. In the 21st century, however, surgical procedures have made amazing transformations possible, and not only for the rich and powerful. Now cosmetic procedures that are more than skin deep, are available to everyone. Of course surgery, involves risk and costs money. So what procedures will give you the biggest bang for your buck, so to speak?
Top on the list has to be cosmetic eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty. Excess fat and skin that droops with age on the upper eyelid is a dead give-away of age. And bags under the eyes contribute to make one look tired and aged. One of the least invasive procedures, blepharoplasty, for men and women, was the third most common surgical procedure sought by patients last year. Eyelid surgery will rejuvenate your face giving you a more youthful, alert and perky look immediately.
Next? Jowls and loss of definition at the jaw line is particularly characteristic of aging. Liposuction of the neck and jowls is one of the most low-risk and inexpensive procedures one can have to restore a more youthful look to the neck. The point is, one can hide body fat on other parts of the body with clothing, but taking fat from this conspicuous area can make a dramatic difference in how people perceive you without undergoing a face lift, which requires a much longer recovery time and costs more. Also, this may be an option for patients that are not candidates for facelifts, an added benefit.
Next on the list, laser resurfacing, or even a chemical peel can go a long way in creating a youthful appearance. Facial rejuvenation is magnified by clear, lustrous skin. Laser resurfacing can eliminate wrinkles, age spots, uneven skin tone and texture, acne scars and generally give new life to sun-damage skin. Laser resurfacing can even minimize smoker’s lines around the mouth. Healthy looking skin definitely goes a long way in contributing to a more youthful look. Laser facial hair removal has been touted as one of the number one procedures helping woman look younger.
Eyelift surgery, liposuction, and laser resurfacing are offered at Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center in the comfort of our fully accredited private operating room. These procedures will give you the most “bang for your buck” in the pursuit of youth in our youth oriented culture, without resorting to more invasive procedures.
