Why Are Younger Women Seeking Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty Photo - Little Rock Cosmetic SurgeryMost patients seeking blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery are 40 years old or older. Generally this procedure is sought to reduce ptosis, or drooping of the upper eyelid or to reduce bags under the eyes that increase as one ages. Often this is desired to remove excess skin from the upper eyelid that impedes vision. But there seems to be a trend of younger women requesting eyelid surgery. These young women are seeking to reduce bags under the eyes or enhance the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Some want to reduce puffiness or excess skin of the upper or lower eyelid that is genetic. Some younger people seek blepharoplasty because of an inherited condition in which the fat deposits create bulging above or below the eyes.

Women in the 30s now want to prevent bags before they fully develop. Now-a-days with incisions made inside the lower eyelid there is hidden scarring, making the procedure more attractive to younger women. Although this type of incision (called the transconjunctival incision) does not allow for removing excess skin, it certainly suffices to remove excess fatty tissue that can cause bags under the eyes. Some women request this surgery to correct tear trough deformity which is a visible groove that signals early signs of periorbital aging and can make the face look fatigued and older. Using transconjunctival lower lid blepharoplasty with fat repositioning rather than fat trimming or excision can correct this. This is a more permanent solution than dermal fillers for that nasojugal groove (this is that line from corner of the the inner eye running outward on a diagonal).

If you are considering eyelid surgery at Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center for any of these reasons, you can be assured of personalized care, skilled surgical techniques, and individualized surgical planning.
