Windows of the Soul
December 2, 2013 - Rhys Branman, MD
Many say the eyes are the windows of the soul. Perhaps they are. Unfortunately, as we age people may see less of those windows because of eyelid ptosis. Eyelid ptosis is that drooping of the upper eyelid that not only makes you look tired and old, but can also partially block your vision. An upper eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty at Little Rock Cosmetic Surgery Center can work wonders to rejuvenate your face and make you look younger and refreshed. In fact, many cosmetic surgeons say this is one of the procedures that truly gives your looks the most bang for your buck.
You may notice that children seem “all eyes.” Indeed one of the signs of youth is the ratio of the eyes to the rest of the face. Studies have shown that attractiveness in women in particular, is related to a combination of youthful and mature features. Just as you may have heard that the hip to waist ratio in women is one of the factors humans are hardwired to consider beautiful, large eyes are considered attractive in women and this is also a signal of youth. The human animal is hardwired to respond to “cuteness” it seems. Large eyes are a sign of the youthful head shape and thus “cuteness.” So whether you need an upper eyelift to relieve ptosis or lower eyelid surgery to relieve bags under the eyes, the added benefit is extra cuteness because these procedures make the eyes seem larger. If you would like to learn more about the body’s proportions we humans are biologically wired to respond to read my previous blog about the Divine proportion.
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty corrects:
-
Bags under the eyes
-
Excess skin on the upper eyelids
-
Sagging upper eyelids
-
Folds of skin around the eyes
-
Impaired vision due to eyelid tissue
Eyelid surgery in some cases can take less than an hour and can be performed under general or intravenous sedatives. As I have said before, blepharoplasty is by far the one of the most significant procedures a woman can have after 50. Everyone looks at the eyes, you flirt with your eyes, and even with the glasses most of us must wear after 50, the eyes have it! The refreshed, rejuvenated look of an upper eyelift can’t be matched for a subtle procedure that most people will not even notice. You will just look more relaxed, happy, and rested. Needless to say, removing bags from under the eyes will help you look younger as well, but that upper eyelift can’t be beat for turning back the hands of time. So let’s make the windows to your soul as beautiful as your soul!
